TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Ward 5 candidate Alex Szczebonski’s:

I am running in this election because I believe that I have the knowledge, skills and most importantly the passion to make Timmins an affordable place for all to live. I have sat back and watched projects with cost overruns, improper business planning for projects and the gambling of taxpayers’ money.  A brief biography:

I raised my three daughters here and am proud to live here and be an active member of the community

I am a civil engineering technologist with work history in roads, housing and project management

I was employed by Timmins Housing Authority, a Provincial Crown Agency of Ontario Housing Corporation and CDSSAB for 28 years.  I oversaw many projects in this role including the upgrading of many senior apartment buildings

I always insist on a comprehensive business plan for every project.  In my years working with the Timmins Authority, I was responsible for establishing maintenance programs, overseeing service contracts, purchasing agreements, approving payments, budgeting control and submitting operational budgets to the ministry for approval.  I also have experience in establishing short and long-term capital funding requirements, submitting proposals up to the ministry level, hiring consultants, preparing contract documents, calling for tenders and overseeing administration of the contract until completion.

I have presented to council on areas that could be explored to realize real cost savings. I will work hard to ensure that taxpayers are not being used like bank machines.

Community involvement: My most satisfying and memorable board association has been with the Polish Hall and Spruce Hill Lodge and the reconstruction and operational development of the facilities.

I am also presently involved with the following organizations:

Northern College Civil Engineering Technology Advisory Council - Chair

Timmins District Hospital Board member

Resource Planning & Utilization Committee (Foundation Board, Audit Committee)

The other candidates running in Ward 5 are:

Michelle Boileau, Michael Doody, Karina Miki Douglas-Takayesu, Rick Dubeau, John Ivanovs, Andrew Marks, Kristin Murray, Noella Rinaldo, Cory Robin, Jean (John) Roy, Jason Sereda
