TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Ward 5 candidate Michelle Boileau’s:

Michelle Boileau is an engaged resident who strives for social equity in the City of Timmins. She is director, recruitment and partnerships, for the Northeastern region with Contact North | Contact Nord, and worked at Collège Boréal for seven years before that (where she continues to teach part-time). Michelle holds a Master’s of Research (M.Res.) in Educational and Social Research from the University of London International Programmes, and an Honours Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Second Language Teaching, specialized to teach French, from the University of Ottawa.

Michelle Boileau is passionate about community development and contributes avidly by volunteering both locally and abroad. At home, she sits on the Board of Directors for the Cochrane District Social Planning Council (CDSPC) as the Francophone representative, and admittedly being a bit of a political buff, serves on the executive board of an Electoral District Association. Michelle has travelled to 20 countries, meeting different people throughout the Americas and Europe. She spent the most time in Guatemala, Central America, where she volunteered as a teacher/librarian in schools run by not-for-profit organizations.

Michelle Boileau believes in the potential the City of Timmins offers its residents. Born and raised here, and having gone away just to come back, she knows that Timmins is can be a great place to live! Now recently married, she wishes to work to better our city and make it an ideal place to raise a family.

If elected, Michelle commits to supporting economic diversity while maintaining Timmins’ strong reputation in the mining sector, to encouraging inclusivity, to promoting new and existing cultural & recreational initiatives, to fostering strategies for a greener Timmins, and to encouraging evidence-based decision-making while ensuring that ALL voices are heard and ALL perspectives are considered in the process.
