TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Ward 5 candidate Kristin Murray’s:

Kristin Murray is a candidate for Ward 5 who is running to bring a renewed energy to the City of Timmins. She has over 15 years of community involvement, both as an employee and a volunteer.

Kristin is a hardworking Timmins resident who cares deeply about our city and its future. She is running for city council to: promote social and community engagement, ensure a balanced approach to governance and leverage strategic partnerships to attract industry and job creation.

Kristin lives with her two daughters in Ward 5. She believes this election is about the future of Timmins. “I am raising my children in this community and as such I feel like I have a responsibility to contribute. I want my family and every citizen of Timmins to be able to afford to live here, have the opportunity to gain employment in their field and live a happy and prosperous life.”

Inspired by the unique needs of northern communities, Kristin pursued an education in social service work and drug and alcohol counselling. Upon graduating, she worked at a local child and family services agency advocating for the health and wellbeing of children and youth.

Kristin later worked at the Timmins Native Friendship Centre as the director of programs and services. During this time, she was 1 of 25 women across Canada who was chosen to partake in a leadership program at St Francis Xavier University. From this prestigious opportunity, Kristin was able to further develop her innovative leadership skills. Her forward thinking and level-headed management style has helped her earn various leadership positions in the non-profit sector.

Kristin Murray embodies the bold, energetic, and vibrant leadership that is the future of Ward 5. "I'm energetic, focused and diligent. I will use all of the skills that I’ve gained throughout my career to meet the unique needs of our residents.”
