COVID-19: Here's the situation in the Timmins area today

The Porcupine Health Unit has not reported any new COVID-19 cases so far today. 

Since yesterday, two people have recovered from the virus. 

The last confirmed case of the virus was reported yesterday in Timmins. 

One class at Ecole catholique Anicet-Morin has been isolated. The school is open. A potential exposure advisory has also been issued for people who were at Mount Jamieson Resort Sunday afternoon.

To date, there have been 344 confirmed cases of the virus. Of those, 316 are recovered and 25 people have died. There are three known active cases — two in the Hearst, Hornepayne area and one in Timmins. There have been two confirmed South African variants of concern in Timmins.

This week, two cases of the virus have been reported in the region. That's down from last week when three cases were confirmed.

Public Health Ontario reported 1,374 new cases of COVID-19 today. Since the start of the pandemic, 314,891 cases have been reported, including 296,252 recoveries and 7,127 deaths.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says that based on new delivery schedules, Canada will receive at least one million doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine every week from March 22 to May 10. Read more on the story here.

Vaccination clinics have started in the region. A clinic scheduled for Smooth Rock Falls today was postponed because of the weather. There is a clinic in Timmins Wednesday, March 17 for Indigenous people 55 years and older.
