34 new COVID-19 cases, 15 recoveries reported today

The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting 34 new cases and 15 recoveries today. 

For the new cases, 27 are in Timmins, four are in the James and Hudson Bay region, and three people are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls. 

Nineteen people are the contacts of a case, one is related to an outbreak and the exposure of 14 is under investigation, according to the health unit. 

To date, there have been 956 confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 705 are recovered and 26 people have died. There are 225 known active cases — 183 in Timmins, 23 in the region of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, 17 in the James and Hudson Bay region, one in the Kapuskasing area and one in the Hearst, Hornepayne area.

So far, 38,500 people have been vaccinated, which is an increase of 56 from yesterday's report. There have been 41,981 doses of the vaccine administered. 

A vaccination blitz is being held this weekend in Timmins and includes free bus or cab rides to the clinics. Read more on that here

People 12 years and older are eligible to book their first COVID vaccine dose at clinics offering Pfizer. Clinics with Moderna are open to people 18 years and up. A list of upcoming clinics is available here

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
