The Ontario-wide shutdown starts today, here's what's open and closed in Timmins

Non-essential businesses are temporarily closed for an Ontario-wide shutdown.

The measure is to curb the spread of COVID-19 and is in effect in Northern Ontario for at least two weeks, and southern Ontario for 28 days. It starts today (Dec. 26). 

In Timmins, city hall is closed. Regular services will be offered through Service Timmins by calling 705-264-1331. Timmins Transit will operate, but there are hour changes for the holidays.

Access to the Timmins Police Station is restricted. People wanting to reach the station for police assistance, advice or guidance, or to report any matter other than a crime in progress should call 705-264-1201. For urgent matters, call 911.

In-patient visits at Timmins and District Hospital will continue, with one change. The designated visitors must be from the local area. More information on those changes is available here.

What will be open:

  • Grocery stores, convenience stores and indoor farmers' markets
  • Big box and discount stores that sell groceries 
  • Pharmacies
  • Liquor stores 
  • Supply chain businesses and those declared essential 
  • Childcare centres and home-based child care
  • Outdoor recreation such as a skating rink if participants can socially distance. Timmins maintains rinks in Roy Nicholson Park at Eighth and Pine, and behind the Mountjoy Arena.
  • Hotels, lodges, cabins, motels. Attached indoor fitness areas, pools and restaurants must be closed. 

Curbside pick-up/appointment only:

  • The Timmins Public Library will be open for curbside pick-up at both branches.
  • Small Businesses for curbside pick-up or delivery only 
  • Restaurants for take-out, drive-thru or delivery only
  • Pet stores for curbside pick up only, veterinary clinics for curbside pick up/drop off
  • Cannabis stores for pick-up or delivery only 
  • Garden centres for curbside pick-up or delivery only 
  • Motor vehicle sales by appointment only
  • Vehicle and equipment rental by appointment only 
  • Car mechanic by appointment only 
  • Home sales by appointment only 

What will be closed:

  • Shopping malls closed for in-person retail 
  • Salons
  • In-person driving instruction except for commercial vehicles
  • Indoor sports and recreation 
  • Museums, zoos and similar venues
  • Drive-in or drive-thru events are not permitted
  • Night clubs and strip clubs 
  • Ski hills
