New COVID-19 case in Kapuskasing area linked to institutional outbreak

The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting one new COVID-19 case this afternoon, bringing the total number of new cases reported today to three.

This afternoon's confirmed case is in the area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Hart, Moonbeam, Fauquier-Strickland. It is linked to an institutional outbreak.

The cases announced earlier today are both in the area of Hearst, Hornepayne.

An outbreak of the virus was also declared today at the Mason Renaissance treatment centre in Hearst. 

There are two other ongoing outbreaks in Hearst — Foyer Des Pionniers long-term care home and RYAM Lumber. 

The outbreak at Extendicare Kapuskasing is also ongoing. 

To date, there have been 302 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the health unit region. Of those, 246 are recovered and 24 people have died.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne.
