A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at a Hearst treatment centre.

The outbreak is at Maison Renaissance. According to the health unit announcement, it is in "accordance with the provincial guidelines which deems that one case in a staff or resident in a congregate living setting is an outbreak."

"The individual lives in the PHU region and is in self-isolation. The staff at the treatment centre are working with the PHU and are taking all the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of infection and prevent the transmission of COVID-19," reads the announcement.

Two new cases of the virus were reported earlier today by the health unit.

Both are in the Hearst, Hornepayne area and one is linked to an institutional outbreak.

There are two other ongoing outbreaks in Hearst — Foyer Des Pionniers long-term care home and RYAM Lumber.

To date, there have been 301 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the health unit region. Of those, 246 are recovered and 24 people have died.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne.
