COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

No new local COVID-19 cases were reported in the Porcupine Health Unit region today.

There have been 73 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 64 are recovered and nine people have died.

The 9th COVID-related death was reported by the PHU on Saturday. It's a man in his 70s who was admitted to Timmins and District Hospital who tested positive July 19. The case had previously been reported as resolved. This is the seventh death in Timmins related to the virus since the start of the pandemic, and the ninth in the health unit's region. The last death locally was reported June 13.

The health unit is aware of 16,509 tests being done locally, which is an increase of 176 from the last report Friday. 

In the past week, 766 tests were done in the region. That's a slight drop from the week prior when 865 tests were completed.

Public Health Ontario confirmed 114 new cases today. So far, the province has confirmed 42,309 cases of COVID-19 since January, with 38,277 cases now reported recovered and 2,811 cases ending in death. There are five known active cases in Northern Ontario.
