COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

There are no known active cases in the Porcupine Health Unit area. 

To date, there have been 72 confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 64 are recovered and eight people have died. The last positive test was Aug. 3.

The health unit is aware of 15,634 tests being done locally.

Public Health Ontario reported 131 new cases today. To date, the province has confirmed 41,179 cases of COVID-19 and has reported 37,397 of those as resolved, with 2,796 ending in death. 

This week, the City of Timmins lifted its state of emergency declaration that had been in place since April 3. The Porcupine Health Unit's mandatory mask order in public indoor spaces is still in effect.

The first round of COVID-19 emergency funding has been announced. The city's portion of the Safe Restart Agreement, which is in partnership with the provincial and federal government, is more than $3.1 million. Read the full story here.

The Ontario government is extending most emergency orders until Sept. 22. This marks the second time that the government has extended most but not all emergency orders under the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA).

The Timmins Parkinson Superwalk is moving ahead Sept. 12, but will look different than past years. To participate, people are being asked to exercise within their social circle to increase awareness about the growing number of people with Parkinsons. Read more on the story here.

COVID-19 testing is open to anyone who feels they need to be tested, even if you don't have symptoms. To access testing, call your health care provider or the health unit.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne.
