Ontario confirms 131 new COVID cases today

There are 986 lab-confirmed, active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, currently.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 131 new cases of COVID-19 and three deaths in the daily update today. 

The most recent deaths reported in the province include two people over the age of 80. Age information about the third person who has died has not yet been released. 

Today's report is the highest number of new cases confirmed in a single day this month, but it also includes cases not reported yesterday. In the Aug. 20 report, data from 11 health units was not included. 

According to a breakdown of cases included in the province's epidemiological summary, Ottawa Public Health had the highest increase in cases with 37 new ones listed in today's report. Toronto reported 25 new cases and Peel reported 21 new cases. 

Of the 131 new cases confirmed today, 64 of them were individuals between the ages of 20 and 39 years old. 

Public health labs in Ontario processed another 28,073 test results since yesterday's report. 

To date, the province has confirmed 41,179 cases of COVID-19 and has reported 37,397 of those as resolved, with 2,796 ending in death. 

Based on the information provided in today's epidemiological summary, there are 986 lab-confirmed, active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, currently.

The breakdown for Northern Ontario health units is:

• Algoma Public Health - 27 cases, rate of 23.6 per 100,000 population. There are no known active cases.

• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 35 cases, rate of 27 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 37 cases. There are no known active cases.

• Porcupine Health Unit - 72, rate of 86.3 per 100,000 population. There are no known active cases.

• Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 92 cases, rate of 46.2 per 100,000 population. The health unit has reported 91 cases. There are three known active cases.

• Timiskaming Health Unit - 19 cases, rate of 58.1 per 100,000. There are no known active cases.

• Northwestern Health Unit - 43 cases, rate of 49 per 100,000. The health unit has reported 44 cases. 

• Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 101 cases, rate of 67.4 per 100,000. The health unit has reported 102 cases. There are no known active cases.

The Ontario rate of infection per 100,000 population is 277.
