One arrested after OPP respond to 'assault in progress' in Kapuskasing

KAPUSKASING - On July 31, 2021, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault in progress on Queen Street in the Town of Kapuskasing.

Two people were involved in a serious physical altercation on the street. Police intercepted in order to ensure the safety of the people involved. One person was uncooperative and assaultive with police and subsequently arrested. 

As a result of the investigation, Samuel Pidlesny, 60 years of age, from Kapuskasing, was arrested and charged with:

  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Overcome resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle another person, contrary to section 246(a) of the CC
  • Assault with intent to resist arrest (two counts), contrary to section 270(1)(b) of the CC
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm (two counts), contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 3, 2021 in Kapuskasing.
