15 guns, $40K in drugs seized near Hearst

CONSTANCE LAKE FIRST NATION - Over a dozen guns and $40,000 in drugs were seized in a First Nation near Hearst.

Four people are facing dozens of charges after an ongoing drug trafficking investigation by Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) at a Machitch Road address in Constance Lake First Nation. 

Officers executed a search warrant at the residence yesterday (May 7).

Suspected fentanyl, methamphetamine tablets, crystal methamphetamine, Oxycodone, Lorazepam, drug trafficking paraphernalia, a crossbow and 15 guns were seized by police. The drugs have an estimated street value of $40,000. 

Two suspects were arrested at the residence. NAPS said that two other suspects were arrested after a traffic stop. 

Mitchell Gillis, 34, of Longlac is charged with: 

  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • 2 counts of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Lorazepam for the purpose of trafficking
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm

Chad Abel Taylor, 53, of Constance Lake First Nation is charged with: 

  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • 2 counts of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Lorazepam for the purpose of trafficking
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm

Desirea Alice Daisy Taylor, 28, of Constance Lake First Nation is charged with: 

  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • 2 counts of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Lorazepam for the purpose of trafficking
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm

Kevin Taylor, 55, of Constance Lake First Nation is charged with: 

  • Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • 2 counts of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Lorazepam for the purpose of trafficking
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm

The accused have been released from police custody and are set to appear in court on July 17. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
