$32K of drugs, weapons seized in Moosonee

MOOSONEE - Over $30,000 in drugs, a Taser, switchblade were seized by police in a remote Northern Ontario community. Two people are facing charges, and a third suspect is being investigated in connection with the bust.

The search warrant was executed by James Bay OPP on May 3 around 10:30 a.m. on Hutchinson Road in Moosoneee. 

Suspected fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, amoxicillin and cannabis with a street value of $32,000 was seized by police. About $340 in Canadian cash, a switch blade, conducted energy weapon (Taser)/flashlight, 40-calibre ammunition, digital scales and 11 cell phones were also found. 

Dwayne Edwards, 40, of Moosonee is charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid
  • Possession of illicit cannabis
  • Possess with intention to distribute illicit cannabis

Anthony Wilson, 30, of Etobicoke is charged with: 

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - Other Drugs
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, under $5,000
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of illicit cannabis
  • Possess anything with intention to distribute illicit cannabis

Both of the accused have been released from police custody. Edwards is scheduled to appear in court in Moosonee on June 6, and Wilson has a court date on June 19.

"Further, there is one more individual who police are investigating in connection with this drug seizure. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided when they become available," said police in a news release.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused are considered innocent unless proven guilty.
