Police are still trying to contact the person of interest believed to be in a west-end apartment.

“All efforts to negotiate with the person of interest that is, we believe, confined in the residence have proven to be unsuccessful at this point. We’ve exercised other venues by phone, social media — that sort of thing has been explored. It has not resulted in any significant results on behalf of the person we believe is in the residence,” said Marc Depatie, Timmins Police communications co-ordinator.

Shirley Street in Timmins has been closed to traffic from Lafleur to Park since late yesterday afternoon. There is still a heavy police presence in the area.

OPP officers have been relieving Timmins Police officers, who have been on the scene for almost 24 hours.

Depatie said the suspect believed to be in the residence was last seen there around 5:30 - 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8.

“We’re basing our deployment on the facts that we have in hand by a witness. So based on those factors this deployment was deemed necessary,” he said.

Timmins Police emergency response team has a command unit set up on Shirley Street and a residence in the 400 block is contained.

Earlier today, Timmins Police communications coordinator Marc Depatie said there is a person of interest linked to a number of investigations believed to be in the residence.

Depatie couldn't confirm if this incident is connected to yesterday's attempted murder that is being investigated.

Residents in the area of the residence have been evacuated.

A police drone has been used in the area, the canine unit is on scene as well.
