8 additional COVID-19 cases reported

Eight new COVID-19 cases are being reported this evening.

These are in addition to the 11 cases reported this morning, bringing the total number of new cases today to 19.

All of the new cases are in the James Bay area.

Two people are the contacts of a case and the exposure of six cases is under investigation.

To date, there have been 1,889 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 1,517 are recovered and 27 people have died. There are 345 known active cases — 51 in Timmins, 270 in the James Bay region, 12 in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, three in the Kapuskasing area, one out of region, and the location of eight cases are listed as unknown.

There is a drive-thru second dose Moderna clinic today at the ambulance base across from the Porcupine Mall from noon to 8 p.m. A list of upcoming clinics in the region is available here.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
