11 new COVID-19 cases, 3 Delta variants confirmed Tuesday

There are 11 new COVID-19 cases and 42 recoveries being reported in the Porcupine Health Unit region today (June 15). 

Three previously reported cases have also been identified as the more highly transmissible Delta variant of concern. Two cases are in Timmins and one person is in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls. There have now been 12 confirmed cases of the B.1.617.2 variant in the region.

Nine of the new cases being reported are in the James Bay area and two people are in Timmins. 

The exposure of 10 cases is under investigation and one person is the contact of a case. 

To date, there have been 1,881 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 1,517 are recovered and 27 people have died. There are 337 known active cases — 51 in Timmins, 262 in the James Bay region, 12 in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, three in the Kapuskasing area, one out of region, and the location of eight cases are listed as unknown.

So far, at least 46,810 people have been vaccinated, which is an increase of 144 since yesterday's report. There have been 60,388 doses of the vaccines administered. 

There is a drive-thru second dose Moderna clinic today at the ambulance base across from the Porcupine Mall from noon to 8 ap.m. A list of upcoming clinics in the region is available here.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
