30 new COVID-19 cases, 5 confirmed Delta variants reported Sunday

Thirty new COVID-19 cases are being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit. 

Five previously reported cases in Timmins are also confirmed to be the more transmissible Delta B.1.617.2 variant of concern. There have now been nine confirmed cases if the Delta variant in the city. 

For the new cases, 22 are in the James Bay area, four people are in Timmins, three people are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, and one is on the Kapuskasing area. 

The exposure of 23 cases is under investigation and seven people are the contacts of a confirmed case.

To date, there have been 1,859 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. As of Friday, there had been 1,393 recoveries reported and 27 people have died. While the health unit reports new cases on the weekend, the number of current active cases and recoveries are not updated.

There is a drop-in COVID-19 vaccination clinic for first doses today at the Empire building parking lot from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is using the Pfizer vaccine and open to people 12 years and older. A list of upcoming vaccination clinics in the region is available here.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne, as well as communities on the James Bay coast.
