COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

One new COVID-19 case was reported in Timmins today. 

A Timmins man in his 40s is the 75th confirmed COVID-19 case in the Porcupine Health Unit region.

Of the 75 confirmed cases, 64 are resolved and nine people have died. There are two known active cases in the city.

The health unit is aware of 20,016 tests being done locally, which is an increase of 127 from yesterday's report. Since Wednesday, 2,508 tests have been done in the region.

Public Health Ontario confirmed 213 new cases of COVID-19 today. To date, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 44,068 cases of COVID-19 and reported 39,598 recoveries. There are 1,657 active cases in the province. 

It's been six months since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In that time, three local mining companies have stepped up with over $750,000 in relief for the area. Read the full story here.

Timmins is providing COVID-19 relief through new initiatives. Council has approved two programs — leaseholders with the city will be able to apply for rent relief, and an interest-free payment deferral option for tax and water accounts. More on the story is available here.
