COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

One new confirmed COVID-19 case has been reported.

It is a woman in her 20s who works at Extendicare Timmins, where an outbreak has been declared.

This is the 69th COVID-19 case in the Porcupine Health Unit region. Of those, 59 are recovered and eight people have died. There are two known active cases of the virus in the area.

The health unit is aware of 9,956 tests being done in the area, which is an increase of  94 from yesterday's report.

A mandatory mask order has been issued for the entire health unit region. It takes effect Thursday, July 23 and medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton expects it will be in place for 'some time yet'.

Public Health Ontario reported 111 new COVID-19 cases today. Public Health Ontario has reported a total of 37,163 lab-confirmed cases since January. Of those, 2,737 people have died, 33,061 people have recovered.

Most emergency orders in Ontario have been extended to July 29, and the state of emergency has been extended until July 24. Read the full story here.

More than 200 employees of Kirkland Lake Gold, left in limbo by COVID-19 and the shuttering of the Holt Complex near Black River-Matheson, have accepted new positions within the company. The company has indefinitely suspended operations at the Matheson-area mines.

Walk-in services at the Timmins Police station are resuming this week. There will be changes for COVID-19, though.

The French primary care clinic in Timmins continued to provide services during the pandemic, which may have eased the situation for the members of the community, says the clinic's primary care supervisor.

With COVID-19 restrictions being eased in Ontario this week, it will likely encourage more residents to consider summer vacation and travel ideas. That doesn't mean you can suddenly travel from coast to coast without restrictions, but there are still plenty of options to consider and stay healthy.  Read the full story here.
