COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

It's been 10 days since the last confirmed COVID-19 case in the Porcupine Health Unit region. 

No new recoveries were reported today either. 

To date, there have been 65 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 55 are resolved and six people have died. The health unit is following four known active cases of the virus. 

The COVID-19 outbreak at the Golden Manor has been declared over. There are still active outbreaks at two long-term care facilities in the region — Extendicare Timmins, and South Centennial Manor in Iroquois Falls. 

Public Health Ontario reported 413 new cases of COVID-19 today. There were also 310 recoveries and 31 deaths. The province has reported 24,187 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. There are now 18,509 reported recoveries (76.5 per cent) and 1,993 reported deaths from the coronavirus (8.2 per cent).  

With an extended stretch of days with no new COVID-19 cases, nice weather, and an excitement for normalcy, the region's top doctor has concerns about sliding back into regular activities. Read more about that here.

Community organizations representing nearly a million off-reserve Indigenous people will receive an additional $75 million in COVID-19 funding from the federal government. 

The Ontario government is funding 15 proposals for research projects aimed at the prevention, treatment and detection of COVID-19 as part of the province's $20-million Ontario COVID-19 Rapid Research Fund.
