An outbreak of COVID-19 at the Golden Manor has been declared over, according to Porcupine Health Unit medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton.

The outbreak was declared May 5 after an asymptomatic resident tested positive.

There are still two active outbreaks in the region, both of which were identified through the testing surveillance of long-term care staff and residents.

An outbreak at Extendicare Timmins is still in effect and is the second at the facility since the start of the pandemic. It was declared May 11 after a woman in her 70s tested positive. It is still listed as one of the known active cases the health unit is following.

There is also an outbreak at South Centennial Manor in Iroquois Falls. It was declared May 8 after a woman in her 90s tested positive. That case was listed as resolved earlier this week.

To date, there have been 65 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the health unit's region. Of those, 55 are resolved and six people have died. The health unit is following four known cases of the virus.

Symptoms of the virus include cough, fever, and difficulty breathing as well as sore throat/hoarse voice, difficulty swallowing, loss of smell or taste, fatigue, muscle aches, runny nose, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and nausea or vomiting.

There are COVID-19 Assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne. They are by appointment only and you must be referred by your primary healthcare provider or the health unit.

The PHU COVID-19 hotline is open today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It can be reached at 705-267-1181 or 1-800-461-1818.
