COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

One new case, no new recoveries reported today

One new confirmed COVID-19 case was reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today.

It is a woman in her 70s who is a resident at Extendicare Timmins. An outbreak of the virus has been declared at the facility. It's the second there since the start of the pandemic.

COVID-19 outbreaks at Timmins and District Hospital and Spruce Hill Lodge have ended.

There have now been 65 confirmed cases of the virus in the Timmins area. Of those, 49 are resolved and five people have died. The health unit is following 11 known active cases.

The downward trend continues for Ontario’s daily COVID-19 case count with 308 (a 1.5 per cent increase) new cases reported today. Since Jan. 15, Ontario has reported 20,546 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19, of those 15,131 people have recovered (73.6 per cent), and 1,669 people have died (8.1 per cent). 

A fire ban remains in effect in the area. According to Timmins' fire chief, it's for all crown and private land in the municipality, as well as provincial parks and conservation areas. Read more updates from today's daily health roundtable for the pandemic here.

Ontario's state of emergency is expected to be extended until June 2, with the legislature slated to vote on the motion tomorrow.
