Ward 5 candidate Cory Robin.

TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Ward 5 candidate Cory Robin's:

I am Cory Robin and I am a lifelong Timmins resident and member of Kashechewan First Nation. I have a young family and spend my days developing business and Indigenous opportunities. I have a strong business background focusing on economic development. As a graduate of Northern College, I enjoy using the skills I’ve learned to advance and grow our local and regional economy.

In my personal life, I’m what’s known as a foodie. My wife and I enjoy trying new creations, sharing recipes and spending quality time in the kitchen. In addition to council, I work with several boards in our community, most of which are focused on the economy and grow with one or two just for fun. Our family enjoys family game night, bowling, mini-putt and many other activities around the city.

The next for four years are important for our family, my wife Melissa is beginning her small business and our three children will continue their schooling. With our oldest heading into Grade 8, he will soon begin his high school journey and begin to focus on the rest of his life. I believe our children will find great career opportunities in Timmins and I will work to develop a city that my kids (and yours) see as a great place to start their own families and take part in the next decade of opportunity.

Timmins is ready to grow, we have jobs to fill and homes to build. Mines are exploring, with new developments that bring jobs and wealth to the city.

Since joining council, I have been focused on creating a better life for everyone. I’ve done this by being part of the team that created the MAT fund to fix Hollinger — creating a space for many future events. I’ve supported residents with issues large and small and took the time to ask the parks department to fix the millennial clock. I have great pride in our City and take notice of neglect or infrastructure that needs attention.

I’m not afraid of the harder conversations; housing the homeless and setting up support. We cannot arrest our way out of that problem, but we can help provide real housing solutions. Real solutions and not misdirected anger.

I’d be honoured to continue working for you to make Timmins the best place to live in Northern Ontario. Vote Cory Robin.

The municipal election is on Oct. 24. The other Ward 5 candidates are Steve Black, Rick Dubeau, Veronica Farrell, Andrew Marks, Caroline Martel, James McMahon, Kristin Murray, Neil Siblall and Ed Stecewicz.
