There are officially candidates for every position in the upcoming Timmins election.

John Curley is seeking re-election in Ward 4 (Porcupine/Connaught) and Bill Gvozdanovic is looking for another term at the council table representing Ward 3 (Schumacher).

A longtime councillor, Curley has represented Ward 2 (South Porcupine) for most of his political career and was elected to the neighbouring Ward 4 in 2018. For the 2022 campaign, he considered running for mayor.

"I’ve had a lot of support, lots of phone calls, a lot of people ready to donate and put their time into this, but I understand there’s another candidate that’s going to be running. So rather than three people running, I thought it was best if I stepped back,” he said.

Curley is turning 69 later this month and retired in 2010.

“I enjoy this … I enjoy being a councillor, I enjoy getting things done, I enjoy speaking on behalf of the residents,” he said.

Gvozdanovic has represented Schumacher in the past.

He last ran for council in 2014, when Joe Campbell won the Ward 3 seat. Campbell has not yet filed papers for the October election.
