TimminsToday asked each of the candidates to submit a bio to introduce themselves to the voters. Here's Timmins mayoral candidate Daniel Fortier's:

Life is all about politics…work, your education, money you have, the colour of your skin, the language you speak, your last name! We should never judge a book by its cover for the life that we didn’t choose. Example, Eilleen Edwards “Shania” was judge by a few and had a hard go in life, look where she is today!

Do I have experience? Yes/No

I was adopted and bilingual. I grow up in Timmins, I visited many cities and seen many opportunities for us, I do have a background in business, mining, corrections and union. I have joined clubs, groups, fraternities and raised money for breast cancer and sick kids. Won mining award for saving cost. I’m a hands on guy and get my hands dirty. I will say “No” because I’m not a politician and will “not” lie or promise you things just to get your vote. City needs leadership and not a suit.

My key is South Porcupine and get that plant solved once and for all. Re-evaluate what we really need. Do we have money? We need to work on our infrastructure and economic development that will last by bringing manufacturers and people here since free trade is crumbling. We shouldn’t stand around and hope the Ring of Fire will come, as much as we need it! “What if”. Always have a plan “B” think outside the box for other opportunities.

Follow the KPMG suggestions, that we paid a professional to get this done.

Affordable housing, reducing poverty, modifying our bylaws, taking care of our senior and get them involve more in our community if they wish. Listen to the taxpayers.

Balance our commercial and residential zoning. Roads maintenance and snow removal, making Timmins safe. I can go on and on. We all want what is best for Timmins. Make your vote count.

The other candidates in the mayor's race are:

Steve Black, Raymond BureyLauchlan MacInnes, and George Pirie
