The Timmins Police Service has charged a person with theft related offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the evening hours of Thursday, Dec. 17 at a Riverside Drive retail store in Timmins.

A Timmins Police Service officer responded to a call for service yesterday at a local big box retail store regarding a person who had been observed concealing items on her person while in the store.

These findings were confirmed by means of a review of in-store video surveillance of the suspect which determined that the person had stolen $487 worth of cosmetics.

The responding officer confronted the female suspect and found her to be in possession of stolen items and placed her under investigative detention in relation to the theft.

The suspect proceeded to provide a false name to the police. Her true identity was eventually determined by the Timmins Police Service.

As a result of the incident, Kerrilee Nakochee, 25, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Theft under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Personation with intent contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Nakochee remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.
