VIDEO: ATVs persistently, illegally crossing driveways: Police

No formal complaints have been received, but police are asking for ATVers to follow the rules and be respectful of property owners

With ATV riders unlawfully using a right of way in the west end of the city, Timmins Police are making an appeal to operators.

The area in question, says Timmins Police, is a right of way off of Kamiskotia Road, north of Martineau Road.

A video shared by police shows one incident with a side-by-side and two ATVs accessing the area.

"While no formal complaint has been received, the persistent crossing of a number of private driveways in this area is a cause for concern for the affected property owners," says police.

Police are calling on ATV riders to follow the rules and be respectful of property owners.

"At this point, it is hoped some level of common ground can be reached between ATV operators in this area and the aggrieved property owners, while trying to keep common courtesy as the priority, as opposed to the deployment of a more formal response by law enforcement," said police.

"The anticipated cooperation from ATV operators, who may very well have not known of the issue they are causing, would be appreciated by the property owners as well as the Timmins Police Service."

While the Timmins ATV Club talked to council earlier this year about creating a bylaw to allow off-road vehicles to operate in the city limits, a bylaw has not been approved yet.
