Two Timmins residents accused of stealing from grocery store

One suspect is also accused of providing a false name to police

The Timmins Police Service has charged two persons with theft related offences stemming from an incident that occurred yesterday evening at an Algonquin Blvd grocery store.

A Timmins Police Service officer responded to the call for service yesterday regarding a pair of suspicious persons who had attended at the store and proceeded to collect a number of items and then fled on foot without making any attempt to pay.

The responding Timmins Police officer located and confronted both suspects a short distance from the scene and took them into custody. Upon arrest, the female suspect provided a false name to the police.

An outstanding arrest warrant in the name of the accused is held by the Timmins Police and was executed at the scene.

As a result of the incident, Crystal Poonae, 33, and Larry Campbell, 41, both of Timmins, have been charged with:

  • Theft under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Poonae is charged with an additional count of:

  • Personation with intent to mislead contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Campbell was released from police custody on the strength of an undertaking compelling him to attend at provincial court in Timmins on June 29 to answer to the charges laid against him.

Poonae remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at provincial court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against her.
