Two charged with trafficking meth, opioids in Kirkland Lake

On Jan. 30, 2020, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a noise complaint at a residence on Kirkland Street in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario.

The investigation lead to the seizure of suspected methamphetamines, suspected opioids and Canadian currency. Total street value of the seizure is estimated to be $860.

As a result, two people have been charged.

Shane Danis, age 38, of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, has been charged with the following:

  • Traffick in schedule I substance - methamphetamines, contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamines, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA, and
  • Unlawful purchase of cannabis, contrary to section 9(1) of the Cannabis Control Act 2017 (CCA2017),

Mitchel Pilon, age 29, of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, has been charged with the following:

  • Traffick in schedule I substance - methamphetamines, contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Traffick in schedule I substance - opioid, contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Unlawful distribution, contrary section 6(2) of the Cannabis Control Act 2017 (CCA2017),

Both accused were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, on March 26, 2020.
