Two charged in Matheson drug overdose death

SOUTH PORCUPINE – On Jan. 15, 2021, members of the Iroquois Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), have charged two people as a result of a drug overdose, which claimed a life in Matheson.  

On Nov. 17, 2019 police were called to a motel room on Highway 11 north of Matheson where Brandon Vignola, 25 years-of-age, was found deceased. The investigation has revealed that the victim died as a result of a drug overdose.  

Christa Bobrowski, 40 years-of-age, and Thomas Hopkins, 21 years-of-age, both from Timmins have  been arrested and charged with Trafficking in a Schedule I substance - Opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).  

Both accused were released on an Undertaking and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins on February 18, 2021.
