Two charged after suspected meth, fentanyl seized in Kirkland Lake

Both face trafficking charges

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Jan. 31, 2021, the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of The North East Region OPP Canine Unit (K9), executed a search warrant at a residence on Tower Street in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Police seized Canadian currency and drugs suspected to be opioids (fentanyl) and methamphetamine. Estimated street value of the seizure is $1,295.

As a result, two people have been arrested and charged.

Joel Tremblay, 28 years of age; and Emilie Durette, 28 years of age, both from Kirkland Lake, have been charged with the following:
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
    •    Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine, contrary section 5(2) of the CDSA, and
    •    Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

Both accused were released on an Undertaking and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on March 4, 2021.
