Traffic stop leads to firearms charge in Kirkland Lake

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Oct. 11, 2021, frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act violation on Second Street in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Police observed a firearm in the vehicle and further investigation revealed that the driver did not have a licence to be in possession of a firearm.

As a result, Trent Prentice, 23 years of age of Kirkland Lake, has been arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 25, 2021 in Kirkland Lake.
