Traffic stop leads to charge for ATV driver

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Oct. 4, 2021, frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on Second Street in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

The investigation revealed that the driver was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle.

As a result, Ryan Hayes, 38 years of age of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

The vehicle was impounded for 45 days as part of the vehicle impoundment program.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear for the Ontario Court of Justice on Nov. 25, 2021 in Kirkland Lake.
