Timmins resident charged in historical sexual assault investigation

On Dec. 1, 2020 members of the James Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police commenced an investigation into a historical sexual assault.

The incident occurred between June and September of 2019 in the Township of Moonbeam.

As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old resident of Timmins was arrested and has been charged with:  

  • Extortion, contrary to section 346(1.1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age, contrary to section 271 of the CC,
  • Forcible confinement, contrary to section 279(2) of the CC,
  • Overcome resistance by administering or attempting to administer a drug, contrary to section 246(b) of the CC,
  • Sexual interference, contrary to section 151 of the CC, and
  • Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age, contrary to section 152 of the CC. 

The accused was released on an undertaking and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing at a later date in Feb. 2021.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
