Timmins Police make two arrests on outstanding warrants

They were arrested in separate incidents

The Timmins Police Service arrested two local residents on the strength of respective arrest warrants yesterday at separate occurrences.

While responding to an unrelated incident at a Third Avenue bank in Timmins during the morning hours of Tuesday, Sept. 13, a Timmins Police officer recognized the subject of the incident as being a person currently named in an arrest warrant.

Once the validity of the warrant was confirmed, the subject was arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

As a result, Heather Slaght, 45, of Timmins was arrested and taken into custody.

Slaght remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins.

In a separate incident that occurred later that same day, an alert citizen reported that a suspicious person was lurking in the northeast area of the city.

The responding Timmins Police officer located the subject of the complaint and determined that the man is currently named in an arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police Service.

Once the validity of the warrant was confirmed, the subject was arrested by the Timmins Police Service.

As a result, Michael Laporte, 31, of Timmins was arrested on the strength of the warrant.

He remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins.
