The suspect in a convenience store theft brandished a weapon before leaving the scene, says Timmins Police.
The incident happened the morning of Thursday, Sept. 7 at a Mountjoy Street South convenience store.
Police allege the suspect stole items and left the store.
"Upon being confronted by a store clerk, the suspect brandished a weapon before fleeing the area on foot," said police in a news release.
The suspect was arrested a short distance from the scene. Police say some of the stolen items were recovered, and the suspect had a controlled substance on them.
A 21-year-old from Timmins is charged with:
- Theft under $5,000
- Possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Possessing property obtained by crime
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a controlled substance
The accused was held in police custody waiting for a bail hearing today.
None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
