An argument that escalated has led to charges against a 17-year-old, says Timmins Police.

Officers were called to a Maclean Drive residence in Timmins after a disturbance early in the morning of Oct. 15.

Police allege that an argument between acquaintances escalated and the suspect assaulted a 41-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl. Both of the victims received injuries that required medical treatment.

The suspect was "combative" with officers while being arrested at the scene.

A 17-year-old, who can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with assault, aggravated assault, resisting a peace officer, and overcome resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle another person.

The accused was released from police custody after a bail hearing and is slated to appear in court again on Nov. 13.

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
