Teen charged with assault after incident at local high school

The Timmins Police Service has investigated an afternoon disturbance that occurred in front of a local high school on Friday, Oct. 28, resulting in an assault on two students and two school administration officials. 

The Timmins Police Service responded to an occurrence where a young male entered the school property and began smoking a cigarette. 

Upon being advised that such activity is prohibited on school grounds, the young person, in an unprovoked manner, proceeded to assault two male students in sequence, followed by an assault on two school administrative officials who attended to quell the situation. 

The responding Timmins Police officers were able to identify, locate, and arrest the male suspect a short distance from the original scene. 

As a result, a 16-year-old person who cannot be named in keeping with statutory requirements has been charged with: 

  • Four counts of assault, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 

The accused remains in police custody for the purposes of a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
