Teen charged after stolen vehicle recovered, police say

A 15-year-old from Kapuskasing faces charges in connection with a stolen vehicle that was recovered Sept. 5 by members from the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police.

Officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle, as well as a traffic complaint, on Brunelle Road South in Kapuskasing, at about 8:30 p.m. A short time later police found the vehicle on a dirt trail off of Brunelle Road South, along with the driver, a news release stated.

The suspect cannot be named due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). They are charged with:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Fail to comply with sentence
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court
  • Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
  • Drive motor vehicle - no licence

The accused was released from a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in Kapuskasing.
