Suspicious person call leads to weapon, drug charges

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with Criminal Code and Drug Possession offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the afternoon hours of Saturday, Sept 11 in Timmins.

Responding to a call for service received from a concerned citizen regarding a suspicious person lurking in an alleyway near the intersection of Tamarack Street and Seventh Avenue, a Timmins Police Service officer located the subject of the complaint.

Having formed grounds for an arrest, the officer located a knife and a quantity of controlled substances among the arrested person’s personal effects.

Based on the incident, Luc Gauthier, 37, of Timmins, has been arrested and charged with:

  • Carry a Concealed Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charge laid against him.
