A local man is facing charges after fleeing from police over the weekend.
On Sunday, May 14, Timmins Police says officers spotted a vehicle on Mountjoy Street South being driven by someone known to police as having a suspended licence.
Officers pulled the vehicle over. While the driver stopped, he then fled from the scene in the vehicle at a "high rate of speed", said police.
"Having confirmed the identity of the driver and taking public safety into full account, no pursuit was initiated by the Timmins Police officer," reads a news release.
Later that day, the vehicle was located and the suspect was arrested.
A 23-year-old from Timmins is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, and driving while under suspension.
The accused remains in police custody for a bail hearing today.
None of the charges have been tested in court.
