Suspect faces arson charges in Temiskaming Shores fire investigation

TEMISKAMING SHORES - On May 8, 2021 shortly before 1 p.m., members from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Temiskaming Crime Unit, the Temiskaming Shores Fire Department, responded to a fire on Probyn Street in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

Further investigation reveals that the fire is deemed suspicious and the area remains closed. It is unknown when it will re-open.

One accused has been arrested in relation to this incident.

Brian Tole, a 33 year old resident of Temiskaming Shores has been charged with:
    •    Arson - disregard for human life, contrary to section 433(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    Arson - damage to property, contrary to section 434 of the CC

The accused has been held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshall (OFM) and the North East Region (NER) Forensic Identification Service (FIS).
