Second arrest made in Kirkland Lake investigation

Accused faces robbery, drug, 'administer noxious thing' charges stemming from a Sept. 28 incident

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Sept. 30, 2021, a second person was arrested in relation to the Sept. 28 (incident after frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assist call at a residence) on Prospect Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

Brooks Sampon, 26 years of age of Kirkland Lake, has been charged with:
    •    administer noxious thing with intent to endanger life or cause bodily harm, contrary to section 245(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
    •    uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm - contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC
    •    robbery with violence, contrary to section 344(1)(b) of the CC
    •    possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the CC
    •    possession of a schedule I substance - opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)
    •    possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice by video on Oct. 4, 2021.
