Kirkland Lake resident facing multiple charges, including robbery, uttering threats

On Sept. 28, 2021, frontline members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assist call at a residence on Prospect Avenue in the Town of Kirkland Lake.

The investigation revealed that the accused threatened, administered a noxious substance and stole items from the victim.

As a result of the investigation, Derek Miness, 35 years of age of Kirkland Lake, was arrested and charged with;

  • Administer noxious thing with intent to endanger life or cause bodily harm, contrary to section 245(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  • Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm - contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC
  • Robbery with violence, contrary to section 344(1)(b) of the CC
  • Theft under $5,000, contrary to section 334(b) of the CC (three counts)

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice by video on Oct. 1, 2021.
