Second arrest made in connection to January drug seizure in Cochrane

On Jan. 1, 2021 at 3:45 p.m. the Ontario Provincial Police Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of the North East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the North East Region OPP Canine Unit (K9) executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant at a residence on Victoria Avenue in Cochrane.

Police seized suspected opioids (fentanyl), crack cocaine and cocaine, as well as a pellet gun and two imitation firearms. Furthermore, police seized approximately $3,500 in Canadian currency. The total estimated street value of the seizure is approximately $80,000.

After further investigation, another person was arrested and charged.

Billy Scott, 34-years-old, of Cochrane was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA,
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine, contrary to section 5(2) of the CDSA (2 counts),
  • Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC), and
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code, contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on March 2, 2021.
