Prohibited weapons seized after trespassing complaint

Police say they recognized the 27-year-old who was wanted on an arrest warrant

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a weapons and personation offences stemming from an incident that occurred during the afternoon hours of Friday, June 24 in Timmins.

Timmins Police Service officers responded to a trespassing complaint at a Sterling Avenue apartment building.

Once on scene, officers located the subject of the complaint who police recognized as a person currently named in an arrest warrant held by the Timmins Police Service.

The subject provided a false name to the officers.

The subject was arrested and found to be in possession of prohibited weapons.

Based on the outcome of the interaction, Derrick Wrightman, 27, of Timmins, has been arrested and charged with: 

  • Two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Personation with Intent to Mislead contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Two counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
