Police seize drugs, stolen items and firearms

A search warrant was executed at a Mountjoy Street South residence on Oct. 29

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local woman with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from the execution of a search warrant at a Mountjoy Street South residence on Saturday, Oct. 29.

A search warrant was executed by the Timmins Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Division and yielded the recovery of a significant amount of the stolen property, firearms, ammunition and a quantity of controlled substances. 

Seized items include 193 methamphetamine tablets, a 12-gauge shotgun, and a rifle — altered in such a way that it is a prohibited weapon, ammunition and a variety of stolen property. 

As a result, Charlene Carpenter, 42, of Timmins has been charged with 

  • Possession of property obtained by crime – over $5,000, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Possession of a controlled substance, contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act
  • Careless storage of a firearm, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime – over $5,000, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

Carpenter was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody on the strength of an outstanding arrest warrant, as well as these newly added charges. A bail hearing is slated for this morning at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to address the charges laid against her.
