The OPP Tactical Unit was on scene to help with the Sixth Avenue containment.

Police are looking for the person who allegedly fired a gun during a Sixth Avenue incident last week.

About 11 p.m on. Jan. 4, Timmins Police were called to a disturbance where a gun was fired in a basement apartment at a Sixth Avenue multi-unit residence.

It led to a containment situation that ended Jan. 5 around 10:30 a.m. when two men were arrested.

"Both subjects arrested at the end of the containment occurrence on Sixth Avenue last week were released later that same day based on the outcome of the investigation," said Marc Depatie, Timmins Police corporate communications co-ordinator.

He said police are "actively" trying to locate a third person, who is known to police and "alleged to be the person responsible for discharging the firearm within the apartment."

"Once located, the suspect will be formally charged with a number of firearms-related offences," said Depatie.

Anyone with relevant information about this event or the location of the suspect is asked to call the Timmins Police Service at 705-264-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
