The Timmins Police Service is continuing its investigation into a series of ATV collisions that occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Friday, July 30 in a residential neighbourhood in the north end of the city.

The Timmins Police – Traffic Services is treating the matter as an incident involving the dangerous operation of a vehicle, with a suspected element of impaired driving attached.

Timmins Police Service officers responded to a call for service where a single motor vehicle collision involving a 4-wheeler had occurred near the intersection of Denise Street and Louise Avenue.

The operator of the 4-wheeler was observed driving in a dangerous manner which resulted in the driver losing control of the ATV and flipping it several times in quick succession resulting in significant injury to a female passenger.

The male operator then opted to flee the area on the still operational 4-wheeler, leaving the injured female passenger to fend for herself.

In the process of fleeing the scene, the operator lost control a second time and flipped the ATV he was operating near the intersection of Louise Avenue and McClinton Drive.

The operator righted the ATV back onto its wheels and fled the scene once again.

The operator continued until he finally ditched the ATV in an area behind the Earle Miller school.

The male operator was observed walking on Simone Court and was eventually located by concerned citizens as he had collapsed and was found lying in the yard of a private residence on Simone Court.

The male was assessed and believed to be injured seriously on-scene by off-duty paramedics who happened to be in the area.

The 34-year-old Timmins man was brought to hospital by means of an ambulance for medical treatment.

The 30-year-old female passenger was also transported to hospital and is believed to have suffered significant injuries to her limbs.

The 4-wheeler remains in the custody of the Timmins Police as an exhibit and is currently being subjected to further investigation by the Timmins Police – Forensic Identification Unit.

As this investigation is moving forward, the Timmins Police Service is seeking public assistance in terms of having any potential witnesses to the collision come forward and provide their information to investigators at 705-264-1201.
